The FPGA has 0. Next to it the video DAC has also 0. I will try to get it fit in future. Heuristic for de-blur function highly depends on the image content. So it might be the case that de-blur is switched on and off rapidly even on small content changes. In any case you can override the heuristic by forcing de-blur on or off.

Send me your observation vie email or open an issue here on GitHub. Final remark on IGR : However, as the communication between N64 and the controller goes over a single wire, sniffing the input is not an easy task and probably my solution is not the best one.

This together with the lack of an exhaustive testing many many games out there as well my limited timeI'm looking forward to any incomming issue report to furhter improve this feature :. This is be done by simply blanking every second pixel. However, some games like Mario Tennis, Goldeneye, and some others use these pixel for additional information rather than for bluring effects.

Hence, the picture looks more blurry in this case if de-blur feature is activated. This can be removed by simply blank these interpolated pixels. In this case blanking out the suspected interpolated pixels causes a blurry picture.

The heuristic algorithm estimates whether a game uses the first or the second method. Depending on the result de-blur is active or not. However, as the estimation could be wrong, the user has the opportunity to override the estimation. The 15bit color mode reduces the color depth from 21bit 7bit for each color downto 15bits 5bit for each color. The 15bit color mode simply sets the two LSBs to '0'. The video DAC does not use any filtering. In general, this is also not needed.

If you need DAC post-filtering though receiver has a ADC build without any pre-filteringyou can install the filter addon also provided in this repository. The filter addon is based on a THS, where the video channels with selectable filter are used.

A complete installation and setup guide to this modding kit is provided in the main folder of the repository.

If the wire sticks out past the other side of the motherboard, it will actually touch the VDC-NUS chip and possibly hit one of the pins! I also like to run the RGB wires through a bit of heat shrink tubing to keep them neat, then cut them to size and solder them to the RGB board click for full-sized :.

I like using Mario 64, since you can clearly see the red, green and blue colors right at the title screen, both in the letters and on Mario.

Nintendo also added a security chip in each game adding to the production cost. What interested me in this method was the small amount of components needed. The only hard thing was tracking down the THS chip needed. After emailing the author of the above site I was directed to www. The mod was very simple to put together but very fiddly.

Big modern LCD TVs are not suited to playing old games systems in my opinion but its easy to take a photo of it. This is the best example of the benefits of RGB. Just look how much sharper the text is compared to composite.

The only disappointing thing is that this mod or any RGB mod is impossible to achieve on a PAL N64 with the exception of a few very rare French versions. Not sure I follow that…. There are typically three ways of getting a video signal from your Nintendo console to your TV: Composite Video, S-Video, and RGB — that order is also generally considered to be from worst quality to best quality, but not all TVs and monitors support RGB or S-Video so your choice will depend on the limitations of your other hardware.

This guide specifically deals with getting RGB signals for best quality. You see, pin 8 on a SCART socket is there to switch the TV display over to that input automatically and select what aspect ratio the source should be displayed at — or The voltage supplied selects the appropriate mode.

You can, as an alternative, select the OFF mode for this pin which will probably default to a aspect ratio? This will minimise audio hum and other interference. The 1CHIP boards are easily identified by their serial numbers and smaller size.

A guide for this modification can be found here. There is an easy fix for this in the same guide as for the RGB amp modification. As you may have seen from the table, the N64 does not natively support RGB. To make matters worse, not all console revisions are easily mod-able to output such a signal.

Good luck! The NTSC console, on the other hand, is a pain because it only outputs composite video and S-video from the analogue port. But enough about component, this guide is for people wanting RGB from their consoles…. That guide can also apparently be used to modify the component video cable to RGB — but, in my opinion, destroying one of those cables in order to get the tiny upgrade in picture over s-video is a waste of money.
